The Indianapolis Colts dropped a nail-biter in Week 1 to their divisonal rivals, the Houston Texans.

You'd think "overreaction Monday" would be filled with negative conversation. But I think the biggest takeaway for the team and Colts fans is how special Anthony Richardson can be.

Anthony Richardson can do things most QBs can only dream of

The Colts gave up 213 rushing yards, 26 first downs, and lost the time of possession battle 40:00 to 20:00. So you'd think they were blown out in Week 1. Instead, they only lost by two points and had multiple chances to win this game. The reason for this is pretty simple: his name is Anthony Richardson.

Richardson is the type of QB you can't give an inch because he is capable of making a big play in the blink of an eye. In Week 1, he ended with 212 passing yards, two touchdowns, 56 rushing yards, and one touchdown on the ground. He reached 212 passing yards by only completing 9/19 pass attempts, which is absolutely absurd. His two touchdown passes were both from 50+ yards out and two of the most impressive throws from the entire Week 1 slate, with his first being over 60.

That's what the Colts have in Richardson. They have one of the few players under center that you feel like you always have a chance, no matter who you are playing. His ability to flip a game on its head in a blink of an eye was on full display in Week 1. And he still had his fair share of misses on the day that, if corrected, could have been an all-timer type of performance from the young QB. Just off the top of my head, there were two instances where rookie WR Adonai Mitchell had what would have been walk-in touchdowns, but the throw was off target.

You want to see him complete more than 47% of his passes. But for him to have the type of day he didn't in Week 1, despite it, is wildly impressive. Of course, the team would much rather celebrate a win than analyze why they lost. However, the most important element of the 2024 season is getting a good read on the type of player they have at QB. And they saw Richardson go toe-to-toe with C.J. Stroud, who many already believe to be one of the top ten QBs in the NFL.
