The Indianapolis Colts have already announced one big change to their starting lineup with the team benching quarterback Anthony Richardson, and an injury to a key starter could have them on the verge of another.
Multiple members on the team are preparing for rookie tackle Matt Goncalves to make his first NFL start against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 9.
Colts rookie tackle Matt Goncalves on track to make his first NFL start in Week 9

The Colts drafted Goncalves with the 79th pick in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He spent all four years of his college career in Pittsburgh, where he spent time at both left and right tackle and left guard. During his senior season, he moved to be Pitt's starting LT after spending most of his college career as an RT. Unfortunately, his senior year came to an end after just three games due to him suffering a season-ending injury. I sat down one-on-one with Goncalves during the draft cycle, and he had the following to say about the injury and having to miss his final season at Pittsburgh.
"It was really rough for me. I mean, not being able to play football for the first time in 4 to 5 years was brutal. But I still did everything I could to help all my teammates and the young guys starting on the offensive line. It also proved to me that I can't live without football. It's something that I want to do for the next 10-20 years. I need football in my life; it's a part of me."
– Colts rookie Matt Goncalves
He has now fully healed and has been asked to come in mid-game this season to fill in for an injured starter. Colts star LT Bernhard Raimann is still in the NFL's concussion protocol and missed the first two days of practice, so his status is seriously in doubt. If Raimann has to miss the team's Week 9 game, like the team is already preparing for, it'll be Goncalves filling in as a starter. A big opportunity is coming for the Colts' 2024 third-round pick.

Looking at history and comments from the decision-makers in the building, it's clear that this was a rash decision that exposes their utter dysfunction to the NFL world. The Colts' impatience […]
