The Indianapolis Colts and their former first-round pick, Anthony Richardson, seem to be headed towards a separation this offseason

If that comes to fruition, it will be very interesting to see which team takes a chance on the athletic phenom who won’t even turn 24 until May. Things haven’t worked out for him in Indy, but he still has a ton of untapped potential that will excite some teams around the league.

We’ve listed some potential trade partners here at A to Sports over the past few weeks. ESPN’s Louis Riddick shared one of his own, and it’s a team that, if they traded for Richardson, would probably shock the entire NFL.

ESPN’s Louis Riddick believes that Anthony Richardson needs to be traded to the Chiefs

Riddick shared that “Kansas City would be the exact kind of place that Anthony Richardson needs to go to.” If you polled 100 NFL fans and asked them to list which team they think should trade for Richardson, I’m pretty confident not a single person would mention the Chiefs.

Riddick compared it to a situation he encouraged when he was on staff with the Philadelphia Eagles:

“Remember back when I was with the Philadelphia Eagles, and we signed Michael Vick when we had Donovan McNabb. Many people thought, “Why the hell do you need Michael Vick when you have Donovan McNabb?” Andy took him because he thought he was a very uniquely talented individual.” – Louis Riddick on ESPN’s “Get Up”

Anytime trade destinations for Richardson are discussed the top teams mentioned are usually those who need a starting QB or having an aging veteran that could retire in the near future. The Chiefs don’t fall in either of those categories and currently have who many view as the top QB in the league in Patrick Mahomes.

To Riddick though Richardson has a lot he needs to work on in terms of where he is as a QB and as an NFL player. And therefore needs a spot that can help him make those strides before he can truly be a successful QB in the NFL. He explained this in more detail by saying the following:

“Right now, Anthony Richardson needs to rehab himself in terms of how people view him from a pure quarterbacking standpoint and from a competitive standpoint. That’s why I think his days in Indianapolis are over. And look, no one is going to question Andy Reid. No one is going to question the wisdom of going ahead and sitting behind Patrick Mahomes. No one is going to question that at this point, considering they just brought back Eric Bieniemy for the single most important reason, which is: they really needed to instill some accountability on that side of the football. I think that’s exactly what Richardson needs.” – Louis Riddick
