The Jaguars signed undrafted free agent Oklahoma defensive lineman Ethan Downs to a contract ahead of their rookie minicamp. Downs began his career in 2021 and earned the right to be a full-time starter by his sophomore season in 2022. He started 37 of 38 games he appeared in from 2022-2024. Downs didn't rack up sacks at Oklahoma, but was a very impactful player for the Sooners. His play recognition ability shines in the run game, which led to him logging 32 tackles for loss in his career.

His ability to stop the run had many believing he had a tremendously high floor as a prospect. Which was a major reason he was projected to hear his name called anywhere from the fifth to the seventh rounds in the 2025 NFL Draft. To the shock of many, though, he ended up going undrafted. His tape itself pointed towards a draftable grade, and he helped himself out even more with his performance at the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, where he showed he is also a sneaky good athlete. He recorded an impressive 4.69 40-yard dash and 9-11 broad jump. And showed off his strength by putting up 32 reps on the bench press, which was the most by any defensive player and tied for second most of any player in attendance. His athletic profile and ability to stop the run could lead to him showing the NFL they made a mistake letting him go undrafted. And this could be a massive steal for the Jaguars.
