As Travis Kelce contemplates his NFL career, he is also branching off into other avenues. The Kansas City Chiefs tight end served as a film producer on My Dead Friend Zoe, which is his debut as an executive producer.
And speaking with PEOPLE, Kelce opened up about this project.
"Being part of My Dead Friend Zoe as an executive producer has been an incredible experience," Kelce said in a statement.
He also spoke about what to expect from My Dead Friend Zoe, explaining that it "tells a compelling story and shines a light on the challenges our veterans face."
"My hope is to continue working on meaningful projects like this — stories that entertain, inspire and make a real impact," he added.
The film follows an army vet played by Sonequa Martin-Green, who deals with PTSD after her friend and fellow soldier played by Natalie Morales, dies.
Kelce praised Martin-Green and Morales for bringing "depth and authenticity to their performances, highlighting the strength, resilience and leadership of women in the military."
Kelce is very busy, handling all of this while also helping the Chiefs throughout the 2024 season and their playoff run. However, he still showed everyone how much this project meant to him.
"While our schedules didn’t align for him to visit set or meet the cast, it was clear from the outset that Travis signed on because of his support for the military and veterans," director Kyle Hausmann-Stokes told PEOPLE. "Everyone on this film — from the leads, to our 90% real veteran cast, to the crew, producers and army of investors that made the film possible — was doing it for social impact and greater causes. It was an honor to have Travis among our ranks for those same reasons."
My Dead Friend Zoe will premiere in theaters on Feb. 28.
