Former Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe revealed on his X account that he will serve as this week’s drum honoree on the GEHA Drum Deck.

Bowe will pound the drum and get the Arrowhead crowd pumped up just before the Chiefs kickoff against the Houston Texans on Saturday. This has become an annual tradition over the past several years, usually featuring a legendary team player.

This is the second time Bowe will participate in this pregame ritual, also having the honor to do it in the 2022 season-opener. Bowe was a first-round pick by the Chiefs in 2007 and played for the team through 2014. He earned the Mack Lee Hill Rookie of the Year award in '07.

2010 was the best season of Bowe's career, catching 72 passes for 1,162 yards and 15 touchdowns – earning him Pro Bowl and Second-Team All-Pro honors. He finished his Chiefs career with 7,155 receiving yards, good for the fourth-most in team history. He ranks third all-time for the Chiefs in receptions (532) and seventh in receiving touchdowns (44).

Bowe quickly fizzled out of the NFL after he left Kansas City. He signed a two-year contract with the Cleveland Browns in 2015, but appeared in just seven games and only caught five passes. He was released after the season, and retired after signing a one-day contract with the Chiefs.

Bowe was a big, physical receiver who made a living on yards after the catch as he was a nightmare for defenders to try to tackle in the open field. He had strong hands and underrated speed. Bowe recorded over 1,000 receiving yards three times, but unfortunately appeared in just two postseason games and lost them both. He should end up in the Chiefs Hall of Honor one day.
