Another NFL team that held a formal meeting with Fernando Mendoza suggested he do the oddest thing to keep from going to Vegas
The Raiders hope that doesn’t happen.
The week of the NFL Combine is always a bit crazy. It’s a whole week of nonstop action from interviews with coaches, general managers, and players, to all of those players who were invited doing drills on the field. The Las Vegas Raiders have gotten into the action with some of these players, too.
The Raiders are holding formal meetings with select players at the combine. They have specifically met with QB Fernando Mendoza and WR Zaccariah Branch during these sessions. These are guys that they obviously like, or are interested in learning about in some way. We all know they are likely taking Mendoza No. 1 overall, but that doesn’t mean other teams aren’t interested in these players as well.
Mendoza, even though teams know he will be wearing Silver and Black next season, is still having meetings with him. In fact, one team asked Mendoza to do something crazy—all jokes, of course.

“Hey, maybe you should get arrested,” Mendoza said when asked what the craziest thing a team has said to him this week during a formal meeting.
In other words, he’s saying the team suggested he get in trouble for something, so his draft stock falls, and he can be drafted by that team that said that to him. Even then, depending on the offense, the Raiders may still take Mendoza. That’s how bad they need their franchise quarterback. And, this interaction shows that pretty much every team thinks that the Raiders are taking Mendoza.
The Raiders are so close to getting their guy. They met with him this week in a formal meeting, and the two sides seem to get along. Hopefully, between now and late April, Mendoza doesn’t get himself into any trouble. Then again, he comes off as the type of guy who is as innocent as they come.
