The Las Vegas Raiders will soon decide who their head coach will be, and now it just become even clearer to Tom Brady, John Spytek, and owner Mark Davis.

According to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel has inked a deal to be the offensive coordinator for the Los Angeles Chargers. He will get to be the playcaller for Jim Harbaugh and Justin Herbert against the Raiders twice a year.

We know that the three coaches Vegas wanted most were McDaniel, Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, and Denver Broncos pass game coordinator and quarterback coach Davis Webb. Now, their list has shrunk. They are scheduled to meet with Webb on Monday, after which he will meet with the Buffalo Bills.

As for Kubiak, the Raiders have to wait a bit longer. He beat the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC Championship on Sunday night. So, he will be preparing for the Super Bowl.

Raiders now have to worry about McDaniel in the AFC West division

Will it really last longer than one year? Will McDaniel really be around long enough to actually terrorize the Raiders when it matters most? That’s not saying he will be bad; that’s saying they could be so good together that McDaniel just goes right back to being a head coach next year after a successful 2026 season. Then, the Raiders won’t have to worry about him.

And even in 2026, are the Raiders going to be worried about McDaniel and the Chargers? Sure, Vegas will try to win every game it possibly can, but 2025 showed us that this team and roster are a long way from being competitive. They will likely have 2026 as the actual rebuild year under the new head coach, and then in 2027 try to start making a push for the postseason.

The Raiders have to get this coaching hire right. They’ve gone through coach after coach after coach year after year, and that’s not very appealing. This coach needs a grace period and some time to really rebuild this franchise. They’re hoping that’s Kubiak or Webb.
