The Las Vegas Raiders are set to meet with another head coach candidate on Monday. They haven’t wasted any time, as the candidate just lost in the postseason a few days ago.

According to Diana Russini of The Athletic, Denver Broncos pass game coordinator/QBs coach Davis Webb will meet with the Raiders later today, his second interview with Las Vegas. The Raiders do have some competition, though, as Webb is also expected to speak with the Buffalo Bills about their head coaching vacancy soon. It’s his first interview with the Bills since they fired Sean McDermott in the postseason; they are behind in the process.

The Raiders really like Davis Webb

Webb is a candidate who seems to be popular this time of year. He’s never been a coordinator, let alone a head coach, so hiring him would be taking a pretty big risk. However, Webb is a brilliant football mind and is regarded as such among NFL circles. Webb is also seen as something of a quarterback guru, and the Raiders have the No. 1 pick, where Indiana quarterback Fernando Mendoza is expected to be drafted by Vegas.

The potential hire makes sense; the Raiders just will be taking a risk. Right now, the job seems to be between Seattle Seahawks offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak and Webb. With this interview, if Webb isn’t hired by Vegas in the next few days, the Raiders are then likely just waiting on Kubiak, who is now set to coach in the Super Bowl against the New England Patriots.

And, after the NFC Championship, where Kubiak put up 31 points on the Los Angeles Rams, it became increasingly obvious that minority owner Tom Brady, and a leader in this head coach search, really likes Kubiak. He mentioned his name in a positive light on the broadcast of the game, in which he worked for FOX, at least ten times,

The Raiders could have a new head coach in the next few days. Or we could wait until after February 8, the day of the Super Bowl.
