In 2022, the Detroit Lions claimed edge rusher John Cominsky off waivers, and he exploded with 44 pressures and four sacks in a breakout season. The expectation was that he was going to be a big part of the Lions' defensive line going forward.
In 2023 he had a bit of a down year, but started several games and showed some promise. He was again expected to be a big part of the Lions' defensive line going forward. Unfortunately, he suffered a knee injury in July and wound up missing the entire season. Today, Cominsky announced on his Instagram that the injury has led to his medical retirement.
Cominsky will always be remembered for that 2022 season and then the social media campaign he ran right after to help get him signed to a new deal.
We look forward to seeing what Cominsky does next. He's someone you could maybe see in the coaching world at some point.
