Khalil Mack is going back to the Los Angeles Chargers for one more season. The 34-year-old is signing a one-year, $18 million deal that is fully guaranteed. This is expected to be one last ride for the future Hall of Famer.

There had been speculation the Chargers could lose both of its pass-rushing stars this offseason. They recently released Joey Bosa in order to reduce his $25 million cap hit. They could still bring him back, but the return of the Mack is notable.

His fully guaranteed contract means Mack will have made almost $91 with the Chicago Bears, $77.65 million with the Chargers, and $18.67 million with the Oakland Raiders.

A nine-time Pro Bowler and three-time All-Pro, Mack could've hit the open market and sought out a ring-chasing opportunity. The Buffalo Bills, Kansas City Chiefs, and Philadelphia Eagles each had the need for veteran help along the edge, but Mack wanted to stay in Los Angeles.

It's hard to blame him with a deal that protects him from injury.

The Chargers hope to ascend to Super Bowl contender status with a strong offseason. Finishing 11-6 before getting drubbed in the AFC Wild Card Round against Houston, the Chargers need more offensive playmaking and a stouter defense.

Mack, who has 107 career sacks, will be part of the solution before he re-evaluates his future once more next offseason. He had six sacks in 2024.
