Los Angeles Chargers will get a bit of extra action this preseason. Jim Harbaugh's squad will get a fourth preseason matchup to check out their depth along the roster on both sides of the football.

Chargers will play Lions in Hall of Fame Game

According to the team, the Chargers will get an extra preseason game of action. They'll face the Detroit Lions to begin on-field, live action for the whole NFL in the annual Pro Football Hall of Fame Game.

Fittingly, Chargers legend Antonio Gates will be honored on August 1 in Canton with the Enshrinees' Gold Jacket Dinner as well as on August 2 with the Class of 2025 Enshrinement ceremony. It will be a special week for the former tight end and his family.

The game marks the third time the Bolts are scheduled to play in the Hall of Fame Game, with the first time being in 1980, when the game against Green Bay was stopped in the fourth quarter due to severe thunder and lightning.

The 2025 Hall of Fame Game will air on NBC and Peacock with Mike Tirico (play-by-play), Cris Collinsworth (analyst), Melissa Stark (sideline reporter) and Terry McAulay (rules analyst) serving as the broadcast team. — Los Angeles Chargers

This game against Detroit will kickoff preseason action for the Chargers. Their other three exhibition matchups are still to be determined. Two of those will be on the road, while the other will be at home.

The Chargers will begin their regular season action on September 5th in Brazil. That will also be the first regular season matchup across the NFL.
