The Los Angeles Chargers continue to struggle to find wins. Same story, different week for head coach Brandon Staley and his unit on defense. Now, the Chargers are 4-6 after a 23-20 loss to the Green Bay Packers.
Staley went on a strong rant in his press conference after the game against Green Bay.
Staley was asked if he would continue calling plays on defense. He said that he would continue to be the play-caller. Staley also told the reporter to stop asking that question. The coach was clearly frustrated.
“You can stop asking that question. I’m going to be calling the defenses, okay? So we’re clear? So you don’t have to ask that again." — Staley
It's clear that Staley isn't relinquishing any control – even though his team continues to have the same issues weekly.
The Chargers struggle on third down. The secondary is inconsistent. The run stopping upfront remains an issue in most games. Penalties have been killer.
Those aspects of a defense is what will get a coach canned. That being said, Staley has kept his job throughout a season where the Chargers continue to disappoint based on their projections before the year began.
Staley sounds like a coach that is drowning in pressure.
