The Los Angeles Chargers are already getting to work ahead of free agency officially kicking off. One of their defensive stars will be back in the fold for Jesse Minter's defense next season.

Chargers bring back Khalil Mack

According to Adam Schefter, the Chargers are re-siging pass rusher Khalil Mack to a one-year deal worth $18 million. It is fully guaranteed.

Mack is a cornerstone defensive piece for Los Angeles. The veteran edge has been a Pro Bowler in all three seasons with the Chargers. He's a former Defensive Player of the Year award winner as well.

LA moved on from experienced edge rusher Joey Bosa this offseason, but Mack is back.

Plus, it is notable that Mack did not test free agency. As an older defender, it is possible that 2025 could be his final season. Clearly, Mack believes in the Chargers as potential contenders in the AFC next season.

Mack did not attempt to test the free agency market to get the most expensive deal, either. That being said, nearly $20M on a one-year contract is a pretty penny for the experienced pass rusher.

We will see how the Chargers navigate the rest of their defensive line this offseason. With the departure of Bosa, that leaves a notable hole off the edge, and a lack of extensions for interior pieces have the entire DL in question for them next year – when it comes to a starting unit.

At the least, they'll have a fan favorite and perennial Pro Bowler back in Mack, though. In due time, we'll see how much he has left in the tank for Los Angeles.
