The Los Angeles Chargers have been landlocked in negotiations with second-round wide receiver Tre Harris. As the team began reporting to training camp this week, Harris began a holdout until the two sides agreed upon a deal. Apparently, that has come to fruition.
Rookie WR Tre Harris ends holdout
According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Tre Harris' holdout is over. He will sign his rookie contract and join the team for training camp practices. This is massive news for the Chargers, and the rest of the NFL can breathe a little bit easier, too.
Earlier on Thursday, the Chargers lost wide receiver Mike Williams, as he announced his intention to retire from the NFL. That was a notable loss to the passing game, as Williams was a free agent addition this offseason. Without him in the fold and Harris in a holdout, the receiving room looked incredibly thin for LA.
Now, the Chargers won't have to worry about that part of their depth chart quite as much because Harris can step in as a potential starter opposite Ladd McConkey. You feel a lot better about Quentin Johnston if he's your WR3, too. Jalen Reagor and Derius Davis currently round out the top of the depth chart at WR for the Bolts.
Justin Herbert is surely going to sleep a bit better knowing his rookie wideout will hit the practice field now as well. The quarterback has held plenty of confidence in Harris, even during the cloudy contract situation.
"He's done such a great job in OTAs of making up for that time."
"He's our teammate – we got his back no matter what."
"Whenever that deal gets done and he comes back, I know he's not gonna miss a beat."

As for the rest of the NFL, this ends the sole official "holdout" when it comes to second-rounders. In the past 48 hours, a handful of those rookies have inked or agreed to a contract with their team. This is the latest, and potentially biggest, domino to fall.
Mike Williams dumps a bucket of cold water on the Chargers’ plans right as training camp begins for Jim Harbaugh’s team
The Los Angeles Chargers are just getting going when it comes to training camp in 2025. One of their offseason additions for the offense will not be suiting up, following the latest NFL news. Mike Williams surprisingly retires from NFL Veteran wide receiver Mike Williams plans to retire. A former Chargers draft pick, the wideout […]
