Chargers to play Texans in Wild Card game
With Los Angeles' season finale win over the Raiders, they locked up the five seed in the AFC playoffs. They'll face the Houston Texans to begin postseason play.
If the Chargers would have lost to the Raiders, they would have been forced to play the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the playoffs. Instead, the Steelers will get that duty to begin postseason play.
As Christmas Day action taught everyone, the Ravens and Texans are in different tiers in the AFC. Baltimore destroyed Houston, 31-2, just a couple of weeks ago. Los Angeles is probably happy to avoid them in the Wild Card round.
The Texans are undoubtedly a better matchup for the Chargers, but the latter will still need to play their brand of football. Clean, assertive, and advantageous.
They are a better team in the trenches than Houston, and the veteran pass rushers for LA need to get home on C.J. Stroud.
As for the offense, expect Justin Herbert to come out hungry after how his last playoff matchup ended with the Chargers – a 31-30 loss to the Jaguars two years ago after holding a 27-0 lead. Jim Harbaugh will have his team ready, and it's impressive that they're sitting pretty in his first year as head coach.
