Chargers’ emphatic win over Steelers potentially came at a scary cost for Jim Harbaugh and the offense
A young player could miss time with injury.
The Los Angeles Chargers are one of the most dynamic teams in the AFC when firing on all cylinders. In Week 10, they were the better team in every facet compared to the Pittsburgh Steelers. That led to a 25-10 victory for the guys in powder blue.
Inside that win, there was a potentially notable cost for Jim Harbaugh’s offense, though. Along with a scary injury moment for Justin Herbert, albeit one that didn’t keep him off the field, one of the quarterback’s pass catchers wasn’t so lucky when it came to his injury situation.
Chargers rookie TE Oronde Gadsden leaves game with injury
The exciting young tight end for Los Angeles was forced to leave the matchup vs. the Steelers due to a knee injury. Gadsden suffered it when he made knee-on-knee contact with Steelers linebacker Payton Wilson. You could tell he was instantly in some discomfort and did not return once he left.
Accordingly, this sort of injury takes some of the wind out of the sails for the Bolts. They played an impressive game after a slow start, and the defense had arguably its best performance of the season. The offense ran the ball effectively, and Herbert made the plays when LA needed them the most in the passing game.
If Gadsden is forced to miss some time, we can expect multiple players to get an increase in snaps at TE for the Chargers. Tucker Fisk and Tyler Conklin probably lead that group.
Will Dissly, a veteran TE who began the season as the starter, was inactive on Sunday night. He would probably become a depth piece of the game plan if Gadsden is kept off the field due to this ailment. Hopefully, for LA, he receives a positive report in the coming days and can return sooner rather than later.
Gadsden has been a revelation over the past month of play, adding a new, trusted level to the passing game for Herbert. He trusts the rookie and expects him to make big plays with the ball in his hands. Keep an eye out for more updates regarding Gadsden’s timetable for a return to action.
