The season so far for the Los Angeles Chargers has been a dream come true. They play with fire. They have overcome obstacles. Justin Herbert looks like an MVP candidate at quarterback.

Even then, a nightmare has come to life during Week 4. With Jim Harbaugh’s team, they keep beating the odds after suffering losses to their roster, but the latest one may be somewhat debilitating if it’s a serious issue for one of their offensive lineman. Joe Alt is dealing with a new injury.

Joe Alt carted off with injury against New York

The Bolts’ star offensive tackle suffered an injury early on against the Giants, which resulted in Alt getting carted off to the locker room. The Chargers have revealed that it’s an ankle injury for Alt. He has been ruled out for the rest of the game against the Giants.

Alt seemed to get rolled up on during the play when he was forced out of the matchup. It was not a non-contact injury, which is a plus for the Chargers and their young stud, at least. The Chargers are already without interior OL Mekhi Becton, and fellow OT Rashawn Slater is out for the season.

Alt had X-rays that came back negative. Los Angeles has diagnosed him with a high-ankle sprain, but more tests will confirm that one way or the other. His timetable for return is to be determined.

For the Chargers, they are certainly hoping that the impressive, young tackle can return sooner rather than later. Herbert is now without his starting tackles and another starting lineman. The injuries continue to mount in front of him, but LA must find a way to create offense.
