The Los Angeles Chargers had an individual performance on the defense that was one for the ages in Week 4.

Defensive end Khalil Mack stepped up in a big way and helped the Chargers down the Las Vegas Raiders without Derwin James and Joey Bosa. On his way to winning AFC Defensive Player of the Week, Mack recorded 6.0 sacks, five tackles for a loss, and two forced fumbles.

The six sacks are a career-high for him, as well as a Chargers franchise record. Interestingly enough, Mack didn’t have a sack the first three weeks before exploding in Week 4. Now, Mack is tied for the most sacks in the NFL.

Mack had eight sacks last year and it is the most since 12.5 he had in 2018. With the big week, there is a legit shot that Mack has the most sacks he’s had in a season in five years during 2023.

This player of the week award is the first for the Chargers since 2016 when Denzel Perryman won it. Overall, it is the fourth for Mack.

If Mack can be a game-wrecker like this when the Chargers are healthy, it would raise their ceiling that much more.
