Injuries are a key part of the NFL. Overcoming those ailments is important for every team, and the Los Angeles Chargers are struggling to do that this season. After a 3-0 start to the campaign, they now sit at 3-2 after a disappointing performance against the Washington Commanders.

Along with the defeat, the Chargers may have also lost one of their top young players due to injury for the time being. Running back Omarion Hampton is dealing with an injury, and his timetable for return is unknown as of now. Check out the latest details below.

Omarion Hampton suffers ankle injury against Commanders

The Chargers rookie running back left the game with an ankle injury and did not return. After Los Angeles’ loss, Omarion Hampton was seen leaving the locker room with a walking boot on his left ankle. That could be precautionary, but it’s never a great sign for the short-term return of a player when they need a boot following a lower body issue.

The major problem is the lack of depth in the backfield for the Bolts. They’re already shorthanded upfront, and the offensive line had another bad day against the Commanders in Week 5. Now, they’ve lost Najee Harris, an experienced backup, for the year, and Hampton’s injury could force him to miss time.

The timing is also veery unfortunate. The rookie RB has broken out over the pasty couple of weeks and shown to be a great force on the ground and in the receiving game for quarterback Justin Herbert. With Herbert getting pressured consistently, his pass catching ability has become vital for the offense.

Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh normally does not reveal a ton of information on injuries, so Hampton’s practice availability going forward will prove one way or the other regarding the severity of his ankle injury.

If LA has to miss any time, the Chargers will have to add a veteran option to the backfield. They may even need a couple of additions to join Hassan Haskins and Kimani Vidal at the position on the active roster. Let’s see what’s next for Hampton and the RB room for the Bolts.
