After a positive experience in 2024 with a Week 1 game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Green Bay Packers in São Paulo, the NFL is officially going back to Brazil in 2025. On Wednesday, the league officially announced that the Los Angeles Chargers will host a Week 1 game on September 5 in Neo Quimica Arena, the same stadium that received Eagles-Packers.

"After a successful and memorable first game in Brazil, we are very happy to confirm the league's return to São Paulo, with the Los Angeles Chargers as the designated team, continuing this incredible story in the Brazilian market," said Luis Martinez, general manager of NFL Brazil. "Together with our partners — SPTuris, Mayor Nunes, and Corinthians — we will continue making history and look forward to delivering another unforgettable experience to the passionate football fans in Brazil."

The Chargers' opponent will still be announced by the league. The realistic options are the Washington Commanders, Minnesota Vikings, and Houston Texans, beyond divisional rivals Denver Broncos, Las Vegas Raiders, or Kansas City Chiefs.

Just like in 2024, the Brazilian game will happen on the Friday after the opening kickoff.

Expansion

The NFL is impressed by the Brazilian market and the fans. The expectation is that the league will expand its presence in Brazil, adding a second game in the country in 2026. In addition to a game in São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro is also expected to host another one.

This year, the NFL will also have games in the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, and Ireland. Next season, Australia will host the Los Angeles Rams as well. Mexico, with a historic connection with the NFL, is also under consideration to receive new games.
