The Los Angeles Chargers will need a new head coach when the season concludes. Brandon Staley was ousted, and fans are ready for a new guy at the helm.

The Chargers could go with an offensive mind to lead Justin Herbert and company or take another swing at a defensive HC. Their route will be an important decision for the near and distant future.

Updated odds to be the next Chargers head coach (Dec. 26th)

  • Jim Harbaugh (+200)
  • Bill Belichick (+300)
  • Ben Johnson (+400)
  • Kellen Moore (+500)
  • Frank Smith (+700)
  • Bobby Slowik (12/1)
  • Eric Bieniemy (12/1)
  • Lincoln Riley (16/1)
  • Ryan Day (16/1)
  • Dan Quinn (18/1)
  • Brian Flores (20/1)
  • Jerod Mayo (20/1)
  • Brian Johnson (25/1)
  • Raheem Morris (33/1)

There's plenty of experience on this list. Harbaugh and Belicihick are some of the most well-known head coaches of this generation. Ben Johnson and Frank Smith are the top two offensive mind on the market this offseason in all likelihood.

As for some of the long shot options, Slowik is a young, offensive OC right now for the Houston Texans. He is not getting as much buzz as Johnson or Smith, but he is very qualified.

Jerod Mayo and Brian Johnson are the dart throws that make the most sense. They would invigorate any fan base that they go to as a head coach. It will be interesting to see how many interviews those guys get.

The Chargers need to nail this hire in order to get back into better shape in the AFC.
