Los Angeles Rams are reportedly considering making a move that would make their biggest strength even stronger
The Los Angeles Rams are keeping tabs on a bold idea that would frighten the rest of the NFL by adding Maxx Crosby.
The Los Angeles Rams have never shied away from making splash moves. General manager Les Snead has built up a reputation for “f*** them picks”, sending out draft capital to acquire big-time players at numerous positions.
So it’s no surprise to learn that the Rams are involved in the biggest trade storyline of the offseason. The rest of the league is circling around on Las Vegas Raiders pass rusher Maxx Crosby, and according to Albert Breer, the Rams are one of the most prominent teams “keeping tabs” on the situation.
Does Maxx Crosby make sense for the Rams?
On paper, Crosby is the type of player that the Rams would clearly like to have. Crosby is one of the best pass rushers in the game and is quickly making his mark as perhaps the best in Raiders’ history. He’s already 19th all-time in tackles for loss and he’s third in Raiders history in total sacks despite only playing since 2019.
The Rams unleashed a strong pass rush last season, finishing tied with the Seattle Seahawks in seventh with 47 sacks. Adding Crosby on top of that would make the Rams front one of the best in the NFL, boasting Crosby, Jared Verse, Kobie Turner, Poona Ford, Byron Young, and Braden Fiske to throw at opposing offenses and give every offensive coordinator a migraine.
However, Crosby is being priced at a similar point that the Green Bay Packers acquired Micah Parsons for from the Dallas Cowboys. That means two first-round picks and a player for a massive contract. While the Rams do have two first-round picks, that doesn’t necessarily mean a deal for Crosby makes the most sense.
They already boast a really strong trio of pass rushers in Jared Verse, Byron Young, and Josaiah Stewart, and they’ll have to extend Verse and Young in the coming offseasons. That trio combined for 25 sacks and 201 pressures this season. With this kind of young talent already on the roster and demanding resources, why would they add Crosby on top of that?
Additionally, the Rams have so many other needs. While they have always and likely always will be a pass rush>coverage team, sending that kind of capital at a position where they don’t really need a significant investment at isn’t sound roster construction, in my opinion. Pick any other position room on the defense and I can argue spending big capital there. Defensive line? It doesn’t really add up in my head.
This begs the question: why do the Rams remain connected to Crosby? Breer isn’t the first person to connect Crosby to the Rams. Is it simply because the Rams are always looking to pull the trigger on a big deal, and are trying to go all-in this year? Ignorance of the roster construction? A tale behind the scenes of any of their players in the room? I’m not sure, but it is odd. This is a situation worth monitoring, even if I remain skeptical the Rams will end up with Crosby.
