Five Miami Dolphins with major roles on the 2025 team will need new contracts or else they’ve played their final home game at Hard Rock Stadium
Five Dolphins with at least 600 snaps played this season are set to become free agents this winter.
The Miami Dolphins have not been an organization involved in conducting contract business throughout the course of this season — and understandably so. Some teams, such as the Baltimore Ravens, have handed out significant contract deals to names like DL Travis Jones and Mark Andrews as this season has played out. The Dolphins don’t have such a luxury, because the overall direction of this franchise is fully in question.
Miami is not operating with a license to give out 2026 commitments — because interim general manager Champ Kelly has no guarantee of being the man in charge next season. It’s smart to let someone else make those decisions once a full-time general manager has been installed. But now that we’re reached the doorstep of the season finale, it’s worth a look at who are some of the Dolphins’ most significant expiring contracts and who may have just played their last home game at Hard Rock Stadium. Each of these five player has logged at least 600 snaps this season on offense or defense.
The top five highest snap-takers set to enter free agency for the Miami Dolphins entering 2026

1. Cornerback Jack Jones – 932 snaps
Jones was a late addition to the roster in July — he signed on immediately in the aftermath of Kader Kohou’s season-ending knee injury during the first week of training camp. Jones had a tough first month or so of the season after having to learn a different way to play in Miami’s scheme. The Dolphins charged him with a bit more physical coverage inside the contact window than he was accustomed to and it showed.
While he’s still boom or bust at times, he’s become a sufficient starter and is capable of making some splash plays in both run support and in coverage.

2. Cornerback Rasul Douglas – 800 snaps
As late of an addition as Jones was, Douglas didn’t come for about another month. He signed on late and has been, frankly, terrific. Douglas doesn’t have a top-flight gear in the open field but his experience and instincts make him an impactful player who is around the ball more often than anyone else in Miami’s secondary. Douglas has posted a dozen passes broken up and two interceptions while also being a physical, reliable tackler.
Douglas has been terrific and is someone Miami would be fortunate to have back in 2026.

3. OL Cole Strange – 752 snaps
The Dolphins claimed Strange off the Browns’ practice squad in early September after injury struck veteran guard James Daniels after just three plays. By Week 4, Strange was in the starting lineup. He is a good athletic fit for Miami’s offensive line and he has started to show some growth throughout the back half of this season.
If Miami wants him back, their best argument in negotiations will be that Strange has experienced what life is like in the wrong systems across the league, maybe he should come back for another year in this one after so much sweat equity. The Dolphins will have openings for depth on their offensive line and even if Strange isn’t a preferred starter, he could make sense as a utility player.

4. SAF Ashtyn Davis – 673 snaps
Davis had a big play in Miami’s 20-17 victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 17. It’s been a roller coaster season for Davis, who signed a one-year deal this offseason only to suffer an injury that cost him most of training camp. He avoided a season-ending injury and has gone on to take more snaps at safety than anyone not named Minkah Fitzpatrick. He’s platooned with rookie Dante Trader Jr. and Ifeatu Melifonwu. Perhaps a depth role is in the cards after this season but in a perfect world, Davis isn’t a 600+ snap taker again next season.

5. OL Larry Borom – 608 snaps
Borom did more than keep his head above water while filling in for right tackle Austin Jackson for about half of the season. He was a proficient pass protector, which is ironic given the complaints he faced playing in Chicago for four years. As a swing tackle, Borom has plenty of appeal. Would a team settle on him as a starter? If not, Miami could maybe have him back at a fair rate in 2026.
Other notable expiring contracts for Dolphins in 2026

- TE Julian Hill – 407 snaps (restricted free agent)
- TE Greg Dulcich – 216 snaps
- SAF Ifeatu Melifonwu – 506 snaps
