Jordyn Brooks’ egregious Pro Bowl snub costs the Dolphins linebacker far more than pride
An egregious snub costs more than just pride for LB Jordyn Brooks.
Is it too late to demand a recount? The NFL has released the Pro Bowl rosters for the 2025 season — and Miami Dolphins running back De’Von Achane has cause for celebration amid his first nod to make the team. But Achane is all alone as a Dolphins player to be named to the primary Pro Bowl roster, with several of his teammates being named alternates who could get the call in the weeks ahead.
Linebacker Jordyn Brooks and fullback Alec Ingold have been named 1st alternates, while WR Jaylen Waddle and SAF Minkah Fitzpatrick have been named 3rd alternates. Brooks, in particular, has a few hundred thousand reasons to be upset at his snub.
Jordyn Brooks’ Pro Bowl snub probably cost him $250,000

Brooks should be bothered by a Pro Bowl snub for several reasons. He’s played phenomenally this season. He’s the NFL’s leading tackler, he’s already set a career high in tackles for loss (12), and he’s logged 3.5 sacks (one off his career best). Brooks needs 31 combined tackles (solo & assists) in the final two games of the season to become the NFL’s first player with 200 combined tackles since Jeff Herrod did it for the Colts in 1994. Miami Dolphins Hall of Famer Zach Thomas? His career best in tackles in a season was 165. Brooks has it beat by two with two games left to play.
Perhaps the reason this snub hits closest to home for Brooks is the fact that he’s missing out on a $250,000 performance incentive in his contract with the Dolphins. According to Spotrac, Brooks would have been due $250,000 with a Pro Bowl honor — and more often than not, those incentives require “original selection” designations to be paid out.
Brooks, who is very clearly deserving, sees spots instead handed to Baltimore’s Roquan Smith and Houston’s Azeez Al-Shaair. It’s not a surprise to see Smith get the benefit of the doubt. He’s made three Pro Bowls before. But he’s got 7 fewer tackles for loss, 3.5 fewer sacks, and 45 fewer tackles than Brooks. Al-Shaair has the benefit of playing on the NFL’s best defense in Houston. But he also has 11 fewer tackles for loss than Brooks does this season, as well as 3.5 fewer sacks, the same number of fumble recoveries, and 73 fewer tackles.
And so I’ll ask again. Is it too late to demand a recount? Brooks was clearly snubbed and will, presumably, miss out on a well-deserved pay day because of it.
