The Dolphins’ big new hire has a fascinating connection to one of this year’s most intriguing quarterback prospects
The Dolphins’ new quarterbacks coach has a fascinating tie to a 2026 draft prospect.
The Miami Dolphins have reportedly struck a hire to fill a significant vacancy on their coaching depth chart.
Miami’s offensive side of the ball was handed to assistant Bobby Slowik, who will serve as head coach Jeff Hafley‘s offensive coordinator. And now, after a bit of a bumpy ride, the Dolphins have secured the man in charge of the quarterback room — they’ve picked a quarterback coach. The Dolphins initially intended to give that role to Nathaniel Hackett, who, a week later, was offered the title of offensive coordinator for the Arizona Cardinals. And now, just days after securing former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kevin Patullo for their own Pass Game Coordinator title, the Dolphins are tabbing Bush Hamdan to serve as their quarterbacks coach per CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz.
Dolphins are tabbing Bush Hamdan as quarterbacks coach & he has a fascinating tie to a QB in the 2026 Draft
Hamdan is a well-traveled college coach with a smattering of NFL experience. His one year in the league was with the Atlanta Falcons in 2017. Hamdan had the unenviable task of stepping in as Matt Ryan’s quarterbacks coach on the heels of Ryan’s MVP season in 2016. Ryan passed for nearly 4,100 yards for a passing offense that ranked 3rd in net yards per attempt. Wide receivers Julio Jones & Mohamed Sanu helped to fuel the attack.
His time before (and after) Atlanta has been rooted largely in dual roles as an offensive coordinator & quarterbacks coach. He’s held that joint-role for Arkansas State, Davidson, Washington, Boise State, and Kentucky.
That Boise State bullet point is an interesting one for the Dolphins, too. The Broncos ran a dual quarterback arrangement that season, with a majority of the pass attempts going to QB Taylen Green. Green would transfer to Arkansas after the 2023 season and served as the Razorbacks’ starting quarterback for the last two seasons. Green has prototypical size, a cannon arm, and is eligible for selection in the 2026 NFL Draft. An attendee of this year’s Senior Bowl, he could be a Day 3 option for the Dolphins to infuse more competition into the quarterback room in 2026. Green may have an advocate in the building now, thanks to the hiring of Hamdan.
