We’ve finally found the one good salary cap measure that the Dolphins rank well in for 2026
Finally, a good cap stat for the Dolphins this year!
You’ve heard all about the tough state of affairs for the Miami Dolphins‘ salary cap situation this year.
It’s been a central talking point for how Miami is conducting their business this offseason — with a long-term patient view of getting into a “healthy” cap situation for their next build. It’s resulted in restraint and bargain shopping in 2026, with one obvious exception being at quarterback. Even that signing comes at a discount to starting quarterbacks. But what if I told you we’ve finally found a salary cap statistic for 2026 that has the Dolphins among the league leaders? It’s true!
The Dolphins are reportedly near the top of the league in salary cap adjustments/reimbursements for 2026.
The Dolphins rank 9th in the NFL in salary cap reimbursements for 2026
The Miami Dolphins, according to Spotrac, were given a $6.5 million salary cap adjustment for the 2026 season — which ranks as the ninth-highest adjustment for any team in the league. A handful of teams managed to crack north of $20 million in reimbursements.
These kinds of adjustments are usually courtesy of teams getting reimbursed for player salary via insurance policies after an injury or incentive money from the previous season that is (or isn’t) achieved as compared to what the salary cap records showed throughout the prior season.
Before you get too excited most salary cap tools do project these sort of things — so the Dolphins aren’t going to have and extra $6.5 million in cap space than they would have otherwise. But the formal number is marginally higher than expectations.
The exact dollar amounts and sources of Miami’s reimbursements are not currently known, but amid all of the talk about how bad Miami’s cap situation is. And the Dolphins’ current amount of cap space is still very much a mystery until this week’s flurry of signings settles down and the terms of contracts become evident.
Either way, it is certainly nice to talk about at least one portion of 2026 salary cap space that favors the Dolphins. We’ll take our wins where we can get them on that front this season. In part because we have to.
