Vikings EDGE Dallas Turner continues to get bad news regarding sack against Lamar Jackson, and the rule must be changed
Dallas Turner getting fined for a clean hit is crazy.
Sunday afternoon was quite an interesting one for the Minnesota Vikings, especially edge rusher Dallas Turner.
At the end of the second quarter, Turner made a nice play on right guard Daniel Faalele and right tackle Roger Rosengarten on a stunt and got a sack against Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson.
It was a cool play, and one we honestly expected to see more of from Turner coming out of training camp. However, defensive coordinator Brian Flores has prioritized having three defensive tackles on the field. This play wasn’t just a cool win for Turner, but he got punished for it.
Dallas Turner fined for sacking Lamar Jackson
On Sunday afternoon, Turner was penalized 15 yards for sacking Jackson because he landed directly on him with his body weight. That ended up getting the Ravens a closer field goal to make the game 10-9.
On Thursday afternoon, Turner spoke to the media and said that he was already fined for the sack and is appealing the decision.
“I already did get fined,” said Turner. “So you know that got appealed. However, we live and learn. You know, each week. It’s still a growing week, it’s learning from experience. So, learning from putting good stuff out there, it’s still a steady grind. But you know, we’re still trying to reach and scratch and, you know, to get the top.”
It’s already crazy enough that the body weight rule exists, but to also fine him for what looked like a standard tackle that would be praised by every coach if it happened anywhere else on the field is a little bit ridiculous.
As Turner said, he’s already appealed the decision, but it’s ridiculous that he got penalized and fined for a good tackle. The reason why things should be different is due to intent. There wasn’t any intent from Turner to hurt Jackson, and that should matter here, but it’s the NFL, so it doesn’t.
This would be Turner’s second fine of the year, as he also got fined for a helmet-to-helmet hit on Justin Herbert against the Los Angeles Chargers. The NFL should change the rule and fast because this is crazy.
