The Raiders controlled the game early on jumping out to a 20-7 lead. In the third quarter, rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy thrived by throwing his first two touchdown passes of his National Football League career.
J.J. McCarthy tells reporters about nerves in first NFL game
The first drive for McCarthy ended in disaster with McCarthy throwing an interception to cornerback Jack Jones. He was trying to make a play but committed a cardinal sin by throwing the ball behind Trishton Jackson on a crossing route.
That interception ended up being a pivotal moment for McCarthy. He told reporters after the game that the nerves went away and he started playing free.
McCarthy started out 1-of-4 passing for 18 yards and an interception. Once the nerves left, McCarthy thrived.
