The Minnesota Vikings defense has struggled mightily over the last two weeks. They have allowed their two-highest point totals of the season with 31 to the Detroit Lions and 30 to the Los Angeles Rams.

The biggest link between those two games was the Vikings missing inside linebacker Blake Cashman. He has been nursing a turf toe injury that he likely suffered against the New York Jets and hasn't allowed him to practice since.

ILB Blake Cashman returning to practice

During his Wednesday press conference, head coach Kevin O'Connell told the media that Cashman would be returning to practice, but not quite in a full capacity just yet.

"Blake will do, he will do basically a full kind of full allotment of work on the side field today, just to make sure you know, he feels ready to roll moving into the week of practice. If, for whatever reason it might be smart to hold him for this week. I think we can have some pretty good understanding after today about where Blake's at. He's done everything we've asked him to do. And, you know, I'm still really hopeful we'll have him Sunday night."

The presence of Cashman has made a huge impact on the Vikings' defense, especially in the passing game. The Rams picked on Ivan Pace Jr. on multiple occasions, including their first touchdown of the game where Kyren Williams ran a Texas route for an easy score.

If the Vikings have Cashman back, it will make a huge impact on the defense. As O'Connell said, they will know more after Wednesday's practice when he works off to the side.
