Vikings take difference-making defender in latest NFL Mock Draft

Looking at mock drafts is very interesting for the Vikings. They have been sent 41 unique players across 321 mock drafts since January 1st, with 167 of those selections going to 12 defensive backs.

That trend continues with the latest mock draft from Travis May of A to Z Sports, as he sent the Vikings Georgia Bulldogs safety Malaki Starks

He wasn't the most athletic tester at the NFL Combine, but that doesn't change the fact that he should likely be considered the best safety in the class. There is some concern that he may drop a bit down the board since he tested out like a 25th percentile athlete for the position, but the Vikings benefit here. Starks was a day one impact starter on one of the greatest college defenses of all time at Georgia. No way he isn't a first round talent.

The Vikings have a need at safety long-term. Harrison Smith is year-to-year at this point, Josh Metellus is on the final year of his contract, and Theo Jackson has never been a starter in the NFL.

Starks can do a little bit of everything for you on defense, which is the number one pillar of what Brian Flores likes to do. Versatility allows Flores to call unique coverages and blitzes, which has been the calling card of the Vikings' success over the last two seasons.

The addition of Starks would also right the wrong that was Lewis Cine in 2022, giving the Vikings that elite playmaker on the back end.
