The New York Giants suffered an embarrassing loss to the New York Jets on Sunday, with Daniel Jones still sidelined.
However, there were some interesting reports that came out on Monday morning regarding the status of Jones prior to the game.
Brian Daboll told reporters that Jones was cleared prior to Sunday's game, but he wasn't hold until after the game (per NY Daily News Sports' Pat Leonard).
However, ESPN's Jordan Raanan provided some much needed context to this statement.
Jones was ruled out on Friday despite his appointment being scheduled for Sunday. Even though he was cleared, if a player's status is listed as OUT, it cannot be changed.
So even if Daboll knew, it still would have been Tyrod Taylor starting.
Sunday was the third consecutive week that Jones was sidelined, having been dealing with a neck injury that he suffering during the Giants 31-16 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Oct. 8.
So far this season, Jones has 104 completions for 884 passing yards and 2 touchdowns along with 38 carries for 197 rushing yards and one touchdown. It's safe to say this season has been a little disappointing for the fifth-year quarterback.
And that comes after he signed a four-year, $160 million contract extension with the Giants prior to the start of this season.
The Giants are currently last in the NFC East with a 2-6 record after finishing the 2022 season with a 9-7 record and clinched a playoff spot for the first time since 2016.
While Taylor led the Giants to one win over the Washington Commanders and one loss to the Buffalo Bills, he left Sunday's game early after suffering a ribs injury in the first half and was taken to a local hospital for further evaluation.
Rookie Tommy DeVito, who signed with the Giants as an undrafted free agent, took over for Taylor. He finished the game with two completions on seven attempts for negative one yards and two sacks. He did have four rushing attempts for 12 yards and one touchdown too.
Jones is expected to be back out on the field on Sunday for the Giants as they travel to Las Vegas to take on the Raiders.
