The New England Patriots' 2024 season was a rough one. And it was very clear that a lot of changes needed to be made.

However, one of those does not involve the quarterback position.

The Patriots drafted Drake Maye with the third overall pick out of North Carolina, and he certainly impressed. So with that, star cornerback Christian Gonzalez spoke about Maye on ‘Gruden Goes Long’ with Barstool Sports' Jon Gruden

“I think Drake’s that boy. I mean, he can make a lot of throws. I personally didn't know how athletic he was—like how fast he was—what he can bring to the table as a runner, and he just likes to compete," Gonzalez said. "I mean we go at it in practice, he talked a lot more talk than people think too, but I'm excited for him.

"He had a good year. Excited to see him take that step next year.”

Maye finished the season going 225 of 338 for 2,276 passing yards and 15 passing touchdowns along with 54 carries for 421 rushing yards and two rushing touchdowns.

And his efforts earned him a spot in the Pro Bowl Games, replacing Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, who opted out of the Pro Bowl.

In an otherwise poor season for the Patriots, Maye continued to be a positive and proved that the future is bright. And Gonzalez certainly agrees.

Maye has now gotten his feet wet in the NFL, and will have an entire offseason to make that year one to year two jump. Let's see what he can do as the Patriots enter the Mike Vrabel era.
