The Miami Dolphins announced the hiring of San Francisco 49ers offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel as the franchise's new head coach on Sunday evening.
McDaniel is a former Yale wide receiver who has spent the majority of his career coaching alongside 49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan (at various NFL stops, including San Francisco, Washington, Cleveland, and Houston).
The Colorado native first got into coaching in 2005 when he served as an intern for the Denver Broncos (working under Kyle's dad, Mike Shanahan).
When McDaniel was trying to get into the NFL he crafted a résumé to distribute. That résumé ended up in the hands of current ESPN reporter Jeff Darlington, who was then covering the Dolphins for the Palm Beach Post.
And it's incredible.
McDaniel wrote on his résumé that his goal was to be a Hall of Fame NFL head coach one day.
I love this from McDaniel. I have no clue how his tenure in Miami will turn out (he'll need to find a quarterback because Tua Tagovailoa isn't the answer for the Dolphins). But he certainly has the right mindset to be successful.
Dream big or don't dream at all.
