Ashton Jeanty is a specimen of a running back prospect. He's agreed upon as the top RB prospect in this year's class and widely expected to be selected in the top ten picks of round one. Could Jeanty be in contention for the New Orleans Saints' ninth overall pick?
That seems to be on the table. The Heisman Trophy runner-up from this past season is catching plenty of eyes around the league as he preps for the draft, and New Orleans has him on their radar.
Saints assistant meets with Ashton Jeanty
Running backs coach Joel Thomas met with Jeanty for a dinner ahead of the RB's Pro Day at Boise State this week, according to Jay Tust. Thomas also attended the Pro Day. There is clear intrigue in the top RB prospect in the class via New Orleans.
Patience, burst, and balance are three of the factors that set Jeanty apart from many running backs at his age. Adding him to a Kellen Moore offense could be really exciting, but there are also tons of other important needs along New Orleans' aging roster.
Jeanty is one of the best running backs I've ever watched at the college level. The offense he plays on doesn't have much on the offensive side of the football and it makes things harder for Jeanty. He just shrugs it off and carries the team on his back.
The best part about Jeanty is that he could fit into any offense. He would be best utilized in a scheme that would maximize his ability to jump cut and that would be one that uses wize zone a substantial amount. — Tyler Forness
Future of Alvin Kamara
With this interest, plenty of folks have brought up veteran RB Alvin Kamara. He just signed an extension last season and has repeatedly said he wants to retire as a Saint.
Is it possible for them to take the elite, young running back in Jeanty and simply pair him with Kamara in Kellen Moore's offense? While it may not be likely, the Saints would not be wasting resources at his Pro Day or at the NFL Scouting Combine if it was not on the table for them. That wouldn't make any sense.
The possibility remains. If New Orleans does pick Jeanty at nine, they will boast the best RB group in the entire NFL.
2025 2-round NFL Mock Draft: An Ashton Jeanty surprise, New York takes a QB, and Josh Allen gets new best friends
The 2025 NFL Draft is officially less than a month away! Plenty of teams have made major free agency moves or notable trades to affect their draft needs in recent weeks. With that in mind, myself and my A to Z Sports colleague Rob Gregson ran through a two-round NFL mock draft scenario. 2025 2-Round […]
