The New Orleans Saints will have to make some tough decisions on their defense this offseason. In the secondary and along the defensive line, multiple players will be looking for a new deal.

In a recent 2025 NFL mock draft, New Orleans prepares for the future in the trenches on defense.

Saints add to DL

#10. New Orleans Saints: Shemar Stewart, EDGE, Texas A&M

The Saints' pass rush has tanked this season. With Cam Jordan getting older and older, the rest of the room has yet to pick up the slack. New Orleans sits 28th in pressure rate and 25th in sack rate. To make matters worse, Chase Young, Payton Turner, and Tanoh Kpassagnon are all pending free agents, and the Saints will need to make cap sacrifices somewhere. — A.J. Schulte

Stewart is one of the most well-respected defensive players in the 2025 draft class. He's got incredible upside, and many draft analysts believe he will go in the top twenty picks.

The Aggie is a raw pass rusher that possesses the size that the Saints love on their defensive line. He looms at 6'6 and 290 pounds. At that size, New Orleans may look to move him both inside and outside.

New Orleans has missed on defensive line prospects somewhat recently in round one, but Stewart is a bit safer than prospects like Payton Turner and Marcus Davenport.

Stewart's ceiling is that of a disruptive every-down defensive end who can collapse the pocket and set a strong edge against the run. His floor, however, is that of a rotational player who flashes occasionally but struggles to put it all together consistently. The team that drafts Stewart will be betting on their ability to harness his considerable physical gifts and mold him into a more polished and productive defender. — NFL Draft Buzz

We will see where New Orleans goes in round one, but the defensive line will almost assuredly be on their radar.

If they are picking in the top fifteen, they'll have multiple options on both the inside and outside of the DL to select from in round one.
