The New Orleans Saints have made some coaching staff changes throughout Tuesday. They let go off three offensive coaches, and another one is now leaving to join another NFC team.
Running backs coach Joel Thomas is leaving the Saints to become the New York Giants running backs coach.
The Saints allowed the interview process between Thomas and New York, a signal that they were open to moving on from him. It should come as no surprise considering the other changes to the offensive staff. Thomas becomes the fourth change on that side of the ball for New Orleans.
Thomas spent nine years as the RBs coach for the Saints. He was a contributor to the success and development of Alvin Kamara and Mark Ingram.
That being said, the Saints had a 'down year' on the ground this past season. That's a certainty.
Kamara had the 2nd-lowest YPA of his career. Backup Jamaal Williams recorded the lowest of his career last season. New Orleans had the 21st-ranked rushing attack. Overall, they needed to be better.
The Saints will begin their interview process for candidates for a new RBs coach, wide receivers coach, offensive coordinator, and senior offensive assistant.
Expect a new OC to begin the hires, and then he will help build the rest of the offensive staff to improve Derek Carr and co's situation.
