The New Orleans Saints have had plenty to be happy about regarding their new offense this offseason. Klint Kubiak seems to be the man for the job at offensive coordinator, but now, one of his star players may hold out of team activities until he gets a new contract.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport confirmed that Kamara's absence is contract-related as well.

Kamara is in the last year of his current contract

Kamara is 28 years old. He will turn 29 in July, before the upcoming season begins. He's been impressive in camp drills up until today.

The Saints restructured Taysom Hill's contract earlier this morning

The Saints restructured the contract of TE Taysom Hill, converting $8.79 million of salary into a signing bonus and creating $6.59 million in the process. Hill’s 2025 salary cap number will increase by $2.19 million to $17.986 million. There is now $9.7 million in void year salary cap charges that are set to hit the salary cap in 2026 if Hill’s contract voids.

This marks the third year in a row that the Saints have restructured Hill’s contract for cap relief. The team converted $9 million in 2022, $8.8 million in 2023, and now $8.79 million in 2024. If released next year the Saints would face a dead money charge of $17.7 million due to all of the restructures. — OverTheCap

New Orleans now has about $12M in cap space for 2024.

Could that space be used to help supply Kamara with a new deal?

We will see what the Saints have in mind. It's hard to believe that they did not see this situation with their top running back coming.

Kamara has been expected to be a key cog in the Saints' 2024 offense alongside Derek Carr, Chris Olave, Taysom Hill, and Rashid Shaheed. Hopefully, both sides can get this taken care of sooner rather than later.
