Don’t let Giants QB Jaxson Dart’s strong game vs. 49ers distract you from the mess Brian Daboll has created in New York
The New York Giants played with little effort while Jaxson Dart performs well amongst the chaos against the San Francisco 49ers
The New York Giants just lost again, this time to the San Francisco 49ers, 34-24, in Week 9.
A lost 2025 season continues to drift away as a two-win Giants team clearly has no direction. Injuries have piled up, mistakes have compounded, and accountability is nonexistent. The Giants’ defense was gashed once again, giving up 159 yards on the ground and 380 yards total to an equally injured 49ers team.
While the Giants’ season has been completely lost, and there doesn’t appear to be much room to rebound, considering the amount of serious injuries the team has endured, there is still one silver lining about this team. Jaxson Dart clearly has what it takes to turn this franchise around. Today’s game was the 100th piece of evidence to prove that claim.
But one thing needs to be made clear that, for some Giants fans, seemingly isn’t. Just because Dart is playing well doesn’t mean head coach Brian Daboll should keep his job.
Jaxson Dart does a lot with very little
It’s no secret that injuries have completely depleted the Giants’ offense nine weeks into the season. Today’s game was a brutal performance by the Giants’ offense, aside from Dart.
One would have hoped that running back Tyrone Tracy could have taken advantage of the increase in touches with Cam Skattebo being lost last week for the season. Instead, he struggled mightily to have any impact, rushing for 19 yards on five carries.
Additionally, the receivers did little to help Dart. Darius Slayton led the group, but with only 62 yards on six receptions. Aside from Slayton, no receivers, tight ends, or even running backs totaled over 50 yards.
Thankfully, they have a quarterback who can make something out of nothing.
On numerous drives, Dart extended plays and put his body on the line to convert first downs. His receivers provided minimal separation, forcing Dart to hang in the pocket and evade pressure.
He continues to display tremendous poise and instincts that you can’t find in rookie quarterbacks. He finished the game with 191 yards passing, completing 72% of his passes, three total touchdowns, and 56 yards rushing.
It was once again on full display today that Dart is somehow thriving in the chaos. Often, when you drop rookie quarterbacks into bad situations, they crumble completely. Dart has done the opposite and seemingly levels up with every big hit he takes.
While Dart has improved each week, a segment of Giants fans feels it’s evidence that Daboll has earned the right to stay after this season. The argument cited is that he was forced to work with Daniel Jones, and now that he has his guy, everything is changing.
Instead, we have to pay attention to the dilapidated mess around Dart instead of being distracted by his performance. Someone has to take responsibility for the multiple years of draft picks that didn’t develop and for the lack of attention to detail. Dart is thriving in the mess that Daboll created, not because Daboll is activating him.
Ultimately, this conversation has to end with the fact that this team has two wins and no competitive spirit. Imagine what Dart could do if the next coach is the right one to activate the whole squad.
