New Orleans Saints matchup means a lot more for Giants QB Jaxson Dart than many realize
New York Giants rookie Jaxson Dart was one of the few quarterbacks worthy of being drafted in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft. The Giants were able to trade back up into the end of the first round to select Dart, but it required several teams to pass on him.
One of those franchises that opted not to pick him is this week’s opponent for his second start, the New Orleans Saints. As Dart seeks back-to-back wins to start his career in New York, he was open about the disrespect he feels from New Orleans.
“I think that there’s always a chip on your shoulder any time that something like that happens,” Jaxson told reporters, “I’m just gonna go out there and play as hard as I can.”
Jaxson Dart on facing the Saints
Giants fans are so far grateful that the Saints didn’t draft Dart ninth overall. According to Dart, it sounds like he believed there was a legitimate shot he’d be suiting up for the Saints this season.
“I felt like my visit with them went good. So, you kind of have thoughts in your head during the draft of what options are really realistic,” stated Dart, “And I definitely felt like that was a place that could have panned out. But things didn’t work out that way.”
Regardless of whether it was personal or not, it’s a trait of any elite athlete to find motivation from the most minor transgressions. Hopefully, that motivation translates to a dominant game in what is a daunting road environment.
Daboll and Dart are prepared for the noise
While the Saints may be one of the worst teams in the NFL, they still play in a challenging road environment. The Caesars Superdome is regarded as one of the loudest stadiums in the NFL, mainly due to the way sound is trapped under its roof. Today, head coach Brian Daboll shared what they’re emphasizing to prepare for it.
“Well, offensively, we’re gonna have to do a good job of communicating,” Daboll told the media, “From getting the play in, to Jaxson communicating, to whatever snap counts we choose to use relative to how the sounds are there, which is usually loud.”
While it’s impossible to completely replicate the loudness of a stadium like the Caesars Superdome, it’s still essential for teams to attempt to simulate the noise at practice. Daboll mentioned that they’re making a conscious effort to pump in noise this week to prepare Dart for the game better.
”We’re going to work at it out here, blast it as loud as we can, and just make sure we’re on point with our communication,” stated Daboll.
While it sounds like Daboll doesn’t want to overlook the challenge of the noise in New Orleans, Dart doesn’t seem to be worried. He pointed out that his college schedule prepared him for this moment.
“I played in the SEC. So, I’ve played in a lot of really loud places,” Dart told reporters, “Obviously, this one that we’re walking into is notoriously one of the loudest in the league.”
We’ll find out this Sunday how ready Dart is for the hostile environment. Hopefully, they can establish momentum with a second straight win.
