The New York Giants just released their first unofficial depth chart of the 2025 regular season before they face the Washington Commanders.

Giants fans have been wondering if rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart will be the backup QB to start the season, and now they finally have an answer. Dart was listed ahead of veteran Jameis Winston for Week 1.

Dart had a phenomenal preseason performance, which generated praise from across the NFL media landscape. No one expected him to be ready to play as well as he did right off the bat.

Dart being listed as the second quarterback is significant for two reasons. One, the Giants typically only dress two quarterbacks, so it shows the team is committed to getting him playing time if the opportunity arises. Two, it signals that Daboll and the offensive coaching staff trust Dart to play if Wilson goes down with an injury.

The most significant question about where Dart would fit in the quarterback depth chart was whether they’d rather have the veteran Winston available in case of an emergency. The fact that they trust Dart over a player with significant trade value, like Winston, shows he’s ahead of schedule.

Another key takeaway is that Andrew Thomas is listed as the starting left tackle. This isn’t an injury report, so it doesn’t mean that Thomas is a lock to play on Sunday. It does at least leave the door open for him to play, but we won’t know for sure until the game kicks off.

Lastly, it’s notable that Cam Skattebo is listed as the third running back behind Devin Singletary. There could be specific situations where each running back could be utilized, but it raises the question of how many touches Skattebo will receive in Week 1.

All of the focus on the defensive depth chart goes to the annoying non-answer on who is the second starting outside cornerback. This preseason, the most covered position battle was who would start opposite Paulson Adebo between Cor’Dale Flott and Deonte Banks.

Based on performance, it was speculated that the winner of the battle would be Flott. The fact that both players were listed is likely an attempt to mislead the Commanders rather than an indication they will rotate often. We’ll likely have to wait until after the game on Sunday to determine who the real starter is.
