Reporter says Giants are expected to swing big at position, including marquee free agent and top NFL Draft prospect
The Giants are focused on upgrading one position this offseason, and they’re willing to swing on the biggest names in free agency and the NFL Draft.
The New York Giants are looking to start the John Harbaugh era off on the right foot and turn a new page this offseason.
They’ve been aggressive so far, and they’ve landed big punches to put the NFL on notice. Now, they need to improve the roster and be ready to compete in the NFC East next season. The Giants have a lot of work to do with not much salary cap space before free agency begins next week, but one NFL reporter says that won’t stop them from swinging big at the running back room.
NFL reporter says the Giants are expected to swing big on free agent RB Kenneth Walker III
The Giants need help on both sides of the ball, but the main focus this offseason, according to many, is to solidify the running game. New head coach John Harbaugh just left the Baltimore Ravens, where he had one of the best RBs in the league in Derrick Henry, and he’s looking to make improvements with the Giants.
SNY NFL reporter Connor Hughes reports that he’s heard the Giants are looking to not only improve the running game, but swing big on the top free agent this offseason, Kenneth Walker III.
Walker III is expected to hit the market despite winning Super Bowl LX MVP after rushing for 161 yards. The Seattle Seahawks are willing to let him walk, like many teams do when it’s time to pay a hefty price for a running back, and the Giants will welcome him with open arms.
RB Cam Skattebo obviously showed flashes in his rookie season, but a season-ending injury derailed the ability to lean on him next season. They also have Tyrone Tracy Jr, who has been vastly underrated in his young career, and Devin Singletary, who they’re expected to move on from this offseason. Even if they miss on Walker III, Hughes says expect them to explore drafting Notre Dame RB Jeremiyah Love with the No. 5 overall pick.
The Giants could draft Jeremiyah Love if they miss in free agency
The free agency class is loaded with running backs, but landing a player you want isn’t a guarantee. The Giants could handpick their next top running back in Love if he falls to them at No. 5 overall, according to Hughes.
Love is arguably the best player in the 2026 NFL Draft, but should the Giants take an RB in the top-5? It’ll be a heavy debate, but one worth having if you find the next Bijan Robinson or Jahmyr Gibbs. Love dominated at Notre Dame with almost 2,500 rushing yards and 35 touchdowns over the last two seasons. Then, Love went to the NFL Scouting Combine and wowed all 32 teams, and people are talking about him as a top-5 lock in the draft, with the possibility of the Giants taking him growing.
