‘I’m not done’ – Giants QB Russell Wilson delivers strong message after being benched for rookie Jaxson Dart
New York Giants quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Jaxson Dart spoke up today after the message news that broke yesterday.
The New York Giants decided to make a bold decision yesterday by benching veteran quarterback Russell Wilson for rookie Jaxson Dart.
Much of the attention has gone to the Giants’ 2025 first-round pick taking over in Week 4 against the Los Angeles Chargers. However, no one knew what to expect from Wilson following the news. When speaking to the media on Wednesday, Wilson was adamant that he still has faith in himself.
“I’m not done,” Wilson said. “I got so much belief in myself and know what I am capable of.”
Russell Wilson speaks on his new role
It’s challenging and complicated to transition from being an impactful NFL starter to backing up a youngster. Wilson’s now being asked to step into a completely new role after a long, decorated career. While a decision like this would demotivate many former stars, he’s accepting that he needs to step up in a different way.
“I’m focused on helping this team win,” Wilson told reporters. “I’m focused on helping Jaxson. I’m focused on me getting ready to be the best version of me today and on Wednesday. I want to be here.”
Several teams could benefit from his services, like the Cincinnati Bengals and the Cleveland Browns. Wilson could have easily shut down and called his agent to make a move. While he’s not the same athlete he once was, Wilson is demonstrating that he’s still the same level of a leader.
However, while Wilson’s messages of commitment to the team are impactful, his statement that he’s not done opens the door for an eventual move.
Jaxson Dart wants to bring swagger
As the page turns, all Giants fans want to know is what Dart brings. Will the offense suddenly catch fire and shock teams in 2025? Will Daboll’s offense be activated now that he finally has a player built for his system? Can the Giants become the plucky young squad that upsets teams, like the Denver Broncos and Washington Commanders were a year ago?
When asked by the media what he provides this team as the starter, Dart made a bold statement.
“The biggest thing for me is I just want to do my best to be a spark,” Dart stated. “I want to create excitement on the field. I want to be explosive when the opportunities are there. And try to just bring a little bit of swagger.”
Swagger is something that the Giants have absolutely lacked. And the explosiveness has also been incredibly inconsistent for New York. Dart’s athletic tools present an opportunity for this franchise to build momentum and carry it into the 2026 season.
