Aaron Rodgers said last week he was eyeing a mid-December return to the field after rupturing his Achilles in week 1. On Sunday, NFL Network's insider Ian Rapoport had a more precise target for the New York Jets quarterback's return.

According to the report, if the Jets are still in the playoff race and Rodgers is able to protect himself, he will be able to play on December 24, which means he will be back in week 16, when the Jets face the Washington Commanders. It's the Jets last game at MetLife Stadium in the regular season.

After that, the Jets play away games against the Cleveland Browns on December 28 and at the New England Patriots on January 6 or 7.

Right now, the Jets are 4-5, third place in the AFC East behind the Miami Dolphins and Buffalo Bills. The last AFC wild card spot at this moment belongs to the Houston Texans, who are with a 5-4 record, so the Jets are pretty much alive.

Meanwhile, Zach Wilson is expected to be the starting quarterback against the Bills, Dolphins, Atlanta Falcons, Houston Texans, and Dolphins again over the next five weeks.
