One man’s problem is another man’s opportunity. And for Haason Reddick, his contract seems to be a problem.
Reddick has missed the entire off-season program so far, including mandatory minicamp, since being traded to the New York Jets back in March as he reportedly seeks a new contract.
Now the Jets are bringing in some depth at the edge rush in case Reddick continues to stay away from the Jets facility as we get later in the year. New York has signed edge rusher Takk McKinley.
The edge rusher took part in their mandatory minicamp this week on a tryout basis and impressed enough to earn a contract and a spot on the roster for training camp.
McKinley was selected 26th overall by the Falcons in 2017 out of UCLA and remained with the team until being waived in November 2020. Over four full seasons with Atlanta, he played in 49 games (25 starts) and recorded 17.5 sacks, 22 tackles for loss and 45 QB hits.
He was released by Atlanta in November 2020 and quickly claimed off waivers by the Raiders and placed on injured reserve. He never played for the team and moved on to stints with the Browns and Rams over the next two seasons.
He signed with the Browns during the 2021 offseason and appeared in 11 games (2 starts), registered 2.5 sacks and recorded 3 tackles for loss. In 2022, he appeared in 4 games for the Rams and spent a majority of last season on the Cowboys' practice squad.
The Jets could use a little depth at the edge position as they await the arrival of Reddick who is looking for a new contract. Reddick is in the final year of his three-year deal he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles. He's due to make $14.25 million in base pay, but none of it is guaranteed.
The Jets are hoping to have the Reddick issue resolved before training camp, but McKinley offers a little bit of insurance in case things don’t go well.
Aaron Rodgers skipping minicamp isn’t the problem, it’s how the Jets handled it
I really hate it when the New York media makes me be the voice of reason. But New York media is going to New York media and the fact that Aaron Rodgers is missing two days of minicamps in June has them New York media-ing HARD. Scrolling through X (I still want to call it […]
