We're getting ever closer to the NFL trade deadline, so get ready for a lot of trade talk here, there and everywhere over the course of the next month. Some things that you'll see won't really move you or it will be stuff that just doesn't make sense. ESPN's Ben Solak just put out something that should definitely move you.
He put out a trade scenario on Wednesday morning that was very intriguing and incredibly doable for the Lions. It would see them trade for a guy that was first overall pick just two years ago. Here's the proposal:
Lions get: Travon Walker
Jags get: 2025 fourth-round selection, 2026 fourth-round selection
Lions fans might remember Walker as the the guy that miraculously got picked ahead of Aidan Hutchinson and pushed the Defensive Player of the Year candidate to Detroit with the second pick.
Walker hasn't had the start that Hutchinson has had, but he's not in the best situation in Jacksonville. There's talent there with him and his athletic profile is off the charts. It was so good that he got picked first overall. What this guy needs is some tuning and he can start while he gets it. Working with Terrell Williams would be huge for him.
This move gives the Lions their long term bookends on both sides of the line and they can grow into one of the most dominant duos in the NFL. If I'm Brad Holmes, I'm making this deal every day of the week and twice on Sunday.
Solak gives a good explanation of how the Lions would use him as well.
"I know how the Lions would use him: a big base end mashing against the run and pushing the pocket opposite Aidan Hutchinson (who incidentally was taken one selection after Walker in that '22 draft). That was the plan for Marcus Davenport, who was lost for the season with a torn triceps in Week 4. And John Cominsky, who was supposed to be a key rotational player, is also out for the year (knee). The Lions are worryingly thin at defensive end."
All great points. The Lions are expected to be poking around looking for an edge rusher at the trade deadline, here's a guy that fits what they want to do and is young enough that they can build a long term thing with him. Two fourth-round picks is worth giving away for that.
The city of Detroit’s social media team drags the life out of Saints receiver Equanimeous St. Brown after his comments on the city in front of Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown
Sometimes people talk and other times people talk too much. The latter is exactly what happened with Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown's older brother Equanimeous St. Brown on last week's St. Brown Bros. podcast. The two were talking about which city was better, New Orleans or Detroit. Equanimeous, who is on the Saints practice squad, […]
