The Philadelphia Eagles took a big step to keeping their Super Bowl-winning defense intact.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Eagles re-signed All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun to a three-year, $51 million contract on Wednesday, making him one of the highest-paid linebackers in the NFL. The deal also includes $34 million guaranteed and another $1.5 million in incentives.

"Eagles are re-signing All-Pro LB Zack Baun to a three-year, $51 million contract, including $34 million guaranteed at signing and additional $1.5 million in incentives and escalators, per sources," Schefter wrote on X on Wednesday, March 5. "The contract instantly makes Baun one of the highest-paid LBs in the NFL."

Baun's journey to landing a massive new contract is an incredible one.

The Eagles signed the former New Orleans Saints 2020 third-round pick to a one-year, $3.5 million deal in NFL free agency last March.

Philly had initially looked to Baun as an extra depth piece at the linebacker position, but once defensive coordinator Vic Fangio switched him from outside to inside linebacker, he quickly became a key contributor to the Eagles' defense.

In 16 starts for the Birds in 2024, Baun racked up career highs across the board with 3.5 sacks, one interception, four pass breakups, five forced fumbles, 11 tackles for loss, five quarterback hits, and 151 total tackles. Those numbers earned him his first Pro Bowl and All-Pro nod in four seasons. He was also nominated for the 2024 Defensive Player of the Year award.

In Super Bowl LIX, Baun intercepted Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes to help the Eagles seal a historic 40-22 victory.

Baun staying put in Philly is a dream come true for both parties.

“Hopefully, it’s here," Baun said last month when asked where he would want to sing in NFL free agency. "I love this place."
