The Philadelphia Eagles picked up defensive tackle Jordan Davis' fifth-year option earlier this week, which means their former 2022 first-round pick out of Georgia is locked in through 2026.
Eagles general manager Howie Roseman broke down the decision that comes after Davis's slow start adjusting to the NFL.
“When you watch Jordan and how he looked the second half of the season,” Roseman said on 94WIP this week, “and that’s a big part of it. How he looked. He was in great physical condition and shape. He was disruptive during the playoff run.”
Davis recorded just one sack during the 2024 regular season but added two more in the Eagles' playoff run, including during their 40-22 Super Bowl LIX win over the Kansas City Chiefs.
In three seasons so far, Davis has racked up 102 tackles, eight tackles for loss, 31 quarterback pressures, 10 quarterback hits, and 5.5 sacks, including playoffs.
Davis will cost the Eagles a whopping $12.9 million in 2026, which looks like a lot compared to his overall production since entering the league; however, Roseman and the Eagles think he is just getting started.
“We forget players still develop,” Roseman said to WIP. “When you look at the history of defensive tackles in the National Football League, you see a lot of really successful guys that people forget took until Year 3 or 4 to really hit their stride. And we think he is just hitting his stride.
“This guy is going to play really good football for us here, he is an unbelievable person, worker, and leader. I think the sky is the limit for him. I think he feels it, and he’s got tremendous confidence, and I’m excited for our fans to understand why we thought it was a really easy decision for us to pick up the option.”
Davis' performance will be crucial in 2025 and beyond, particularly following the departure of Milton Williams in free agency. The Eagles clearly believe he can rise to the occasion.
