Philadelphia Eagles' Jalen Hurts made it known last offseason that he has always desired consistency.
Dating back to his high school days, Hurts has had 10 different playcallers.
"As a player, I definitely yearn for sustainability and consistency," Hurts said. "As you know Coach Stout serves for his offensive line room. …As a quarterback arguing for those things in a play caller and quarterback coach because you kind of see how consistency in those areas can breed excellence, and his track record kind of shows for that. So it's definitely something that I desire."
The Eagles recently lost offensive coordinator Kellen Moore to the New Orleans Saints head coach job. Moore then hired Eagles' quarterback coach Doug Nussmeier as his new OC in New Orleans.
That left the Eagles promoting passing game coordinator Kevin Patullo as their new OC.
Patullo marks Hurts' 11th play-caller throughout his entire football career and fifth OC since he entered the NFL in 2020.
There is some upside to the hire. For starters, Patullo has been with Hurts and the Eagles since 2021. And since he is an internal hire, it means that Hurts won't need to learn a new system.
It's still a big change for Philly but if anyone can adjust their sail, it's Hurts.
Despite playing under four different offensive coordinators, Hurts has led the Eagles to two NFC championship wins and two Super Bowl appearances — of course, winning one.
