The Philadelphia Eagles NFL roster won't look too different in 2024, though there are a few starting positions that will have new names attached to them, including at center.
After 13 seasons as the Eagles' center, Jason Kelce called it quits in March.
Now it's Cam Jurgens' job to fill the void left by Kelce, which, according to NFL Network's Adam Rank, makes Jurgens the most important non-QB on the Eagles roster in 2024:
"Jason Kelce was one of the best to ever play the center position. To go back to the ECW analogy, Kelce was the Tommy Dreamer of the Eagles offense — the heart and soul of the operation. Jurgens is expected to take over for Kelce at center. Jurgens has started 11 games — all at right guard last season — since being selected in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft. He had the worst pass-blocking grade among Philly O-linemen (min. 100 pass-block attempts) and second-worst run-blocking grade among Philly O-linemen (min. 100 run-block snaps) last season, according to PFF," – Adam Rank
Rank isn't wrong in the sense that all eyes will be on Jurgens this fall as his performance could make or break the Eagles' offense.
And nobody can actually replace Jason Kelce's work ethic, but if there's anyone who might come close to it, it's Jurgens.
That's because Kelce handpicked him out of the 2022 NFL draft class to be his replacement and he's been grooming him ever since.
“Out of all the guys that compare the most to myself, this guy is him.” Kelce said back then.
Sure, Jurgens has seen very little action at center, playing just 43 snaps at that position while logging 709 snaps at right guard, but it's the in-game experience, personal growth, and two years of learning from Kelce that we're counting on.
Eagles CB Isaiah Rodgers emerges as an early offseason standout through OTAs, minicamp
The Philadelphia Eagles and several other NFL teams wrapped up their spring workout program last week, which means we won't get to see them back on the field together until training camp kicks off in July. Following OTAs and mandatory minicamp, the writing staff at A to Z Sports went through all 32 NFL teams […]
